Rye is a city located in Westchester County, New York. It is situated along Long Island Sound and has a population of approximately 16,000 people. Rye is known for its affluent neighborhoods and high-performing school district, which attract many families with children. The city is also home to several large financial firms and is a popular location for business professionals. In addition to its thriving business community, Rye offers a variety of amenities and attractions, including parks, beaches, shopping centers, and cultural institutions. Rye, 25 miles from New York City and surrounded by Rye Bro, Rye Neck, Port Chester and Harrison, is reminiscent of a quaint New England town, but with every modern luxury. Res- idents enjoy its lovely parks and scenic vistas of Long Island Sound.

Rye’s upscale homes and large estates make the area particularly beautiful. On fashionable Purchase Street, shoppers find specialty shops of every kind and fine restaurants. Shop- ping centers with everything one could need are just 15 minutes away. Manhattan is easily reached by several major highways and Metro-North trains are only 38 minutes away.

The Rye Recreation department maintains four recreational facilities. The Recreation Park complex features eight tennis courts (six with lights), baseball, softball and soccer fields, and a multi-purpose area with lighted basketball courts, a skate park, picnic areas, a volleyball court and two playgrounds.

More tennis courts, baseball fields and another play- ground are at Disbrow Park. On Nursery Lane, Gigliardo Park has a picnic shelter, baseball field, volleyball court and a playground. The YMCA has two indoor pools, modern fitness facilities and classes for adults and children.

Along with educational programs for kids and adults, the Rye Nature Center has beautiful trails for hiking. Bird lovers will enjoy the Marshland Conservancy. Rye’s waterfront makes it a natural for sailors of all ages.

The Rye Marina and several country clubs have docking and mooring facilities. Rye Beach is open to local residents.

Snack bars and glorious scenery make the beach delightful for parents and children. The Westchester Children’s Museum will soon offer interactive learning experiences to kids and families.

Nearby Playland, an amusement park and National Historic Landmark, features rides and a beach, as well as a boardwalk, swimming pool, miniature golf and ice skating in a charming art-deco atmosphere.

Education in Rye is first class. The Osborn, Milton and Midland elementary schools combine challenging, academically rigorous and supportive environments with class participation at Rye’s nature center, historical society, arts center, marsh-lands conservancy, Edith Read Sanctuary and Rye Free Reading Room. Rye Middle School educates sixth, seventh and eighth graders with team teaching, a block schedule design and flexible grouping patterns, combining interdisciplinary activities With its rigorous core curriculum.

Rye High School provides a highly rated academic pro- gram, including Advanced Placement, honors courses and stimulating electives to 900 students in a beautiful, bucolic 20 acre campus. The Rye Neck Union Free School is used by families in Greenhaven, the Preserve, Hannan Place and Bixby Court. Daniel Warren houses full day kindergarten and first grade. Rye Neck Middle/High School serves grades 6-12.
