Rye Brook
Rye Brook was originally an incorporated section of the Town of Rye that established itself as a village in 1982. It’s approximately 3.5 square miles with a population of about 8,300. Rye Brook’s verdant neighborhoods offer convenient access to many Westchester corporations. Ward’s Castle, a National Historic landmark built in 1876, is in Rye Brook.
Bordering the village are Connecticut to the east, the town of Harrison to the West and Port Chester to the South. Many corporate executives choose Rye Brook to live in due to the 40-minute commute to Manhattan. Interstates 1 95, 287, and the Hutchinson River and Merritt Parkways are nearby. Frequent travelers prefer the short ride to Westchester Airport, with its safe, easy parking, over La Guardia and JFK for domestic flights.
Rye Ridge Shopping Plaza offers a wide variety of convenient shopping options, from banks to bakery.
An unpaid Mayor and four trustees govern Rye Brook. The village has many houses of worship within its borders or nearby, including Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Baptist and
Jewish. The community takes an active pride in its excellent, innovative educational system. The Ridge Street School (K-5) is on a 15 acre site and the Blind Brook School (6-12) is on 20 wooded acres. Both buildings are modern and boast high caliber instructors and facilities. Elementary education is characterized by small classes and individualized attention. The Junior-Senior High School provides a semi-open environment conferring a flexible and broad learning experience.
Rye Brook’s Recreation department manages several fine parks—Garibaldi, Harkness, Pine Ridge and Rye Hills, where residents enjoy many outdoor and sports activities. There are three tennis facilities, with instruction available for adults and children. Other offerings include golf instruction, swimming lessons, softball and baseball leagues. The Department sponsors many fun and instructive programs for children and senior citizens, including day trips and summer sports camps. All sorts of fun activities are found year round at the 36-acre Crawford Park, where the Crawford Mansion, pavilion and ball fields are available for lease to Rye Town residents.
